Situated just 52 minutes from London via rail, Rugby is ideally located to provide a fully immersive, and distinctive, boarding experience, tailored to the individual child.
School life is enjoyable and enriching, challenging and fulfilling. Boarding Houses of 50-55 boys or girls aged 13-18 provide all the pastoral support required to assist our students, coaching them through their Rugbeian experience. The House is the home for each child; all meals are taken in House, where boarders enjoy the care and attention of three full-time resident staff plus a team of academic tutors, and other House-based staff.
Founded in 1567, Rugby has become arguably the pre-eminent academic, co-educational, full-boarding school in the United Kingdom. Teaching and learning is at the core of all that we do, but by providing such a full and inclusive co-curricular programme, our young people are also enabled to develop their confidence, their teamwork and their leadership skills, which in turn brings a purposeful and self-motivated approach to academic work and to independent study. A philosophy of coaching, underpinned by strong relationships between staff and students, ensures that our young people learn to resolve problems, showing resilience and initiative.
Students at Rugby School enjoy the benefit of extraordinary facilities, and a highly-qualified body of staff, teaching GCSE/iGCSE, Advanced Level and the IB Diploma. Rugbeians learn what is needed to prepare fully for public examinations but, more importantly, they develop a love of learning which stays with them long after they have left the School. We set high expectations, not only in terms of their work ethic but also in terms of their intellectual ambition. Students aim high and our record of university success is proof of this.
During their time at Rugby School, every student will
- Participate in physical activity three times each week of at least moderate intensity
- Participate in a theatrical production either on or behind the stage
- Participate in a musical event
- Serve in the CCF for at least one year
- Carry out a community service for at least one year (unless in CCF)
- Complete their Bronze DofE
- Commit to a weekly voluntary activity of their choice
- Attend a variety of Society meetings to enrich their academic curiosity
- Speak publicly in either the House, Chapel or to a wider school audience
- Sing on stage in front of an audience
- Be a member of a sports team & represent your House or the School
- Be in the audience for at least one theatrical production each year
- Be in the audience for at least one musical event each year
- Be a spectator at a minimum of one sporting event each year
